John Trasvina

 

Mr. John Trasvina has devoted his career to civil rights, public service and education. Currently, he is the California Executive Director of Generation Citizen. Prior to this, John was the Dean of the University of San Francisco School of Law from 2013-2018. He has also served as HUD Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity; as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs at the Department of Justice; and as counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution. 


In the area of civil rights, Mr. Trasvina has served as the President and General Counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense & Educational Fund (MALDEF), led the Discrimination Research Center in Berkeley and directed the western regional office of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.  He currently serves as President of the Lowell High School Alumni Association and helped establish the Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL), which provides scholarships and mentoring for Asian Americans interested in public policy careers.  John has been a Board member of the1990 Institute for four years and is a graduate of Harvard University and Stanford Law School.
